Throwing The Last Punch at Cancer

Post-cancer, these side effects have forced Ann to make several adjustments with her body, her wardrobe, and her life. To restore her flat chest, she is considering breast reconstruction surgery. To conceal her thinning hair, Ann has changed her haircut and style. To cover up her scars, she only wears high-necked shirts. While Ann might be labeled a cancer-free survivor, the disease's after-effects still linger.

Despite all of this, cancer is just a few chapters of her story. She has come to realize more than ever that family and friends should be her focus in life. Looks do not last forever. Cancer simply sped along the aging process and caused her to find the real meaning to her story. So many women concern themselves with Botox, expensive anti-aging serums, and plastic surgery. When you have cancer, you do not have time to be vain. Instead, Ann looks at her scars and wrinkles as memories of her past and signs of her strength. Maybe it is because she is comfortable with herself, or maybe it is because she now knows she's a fighter, but Ann has reinvented beauty.

Cancer took Ann's hair. Cancer took Ann's breasts. Cancer took her slim figure. And cancer even took her physical strength for awhile. However, cancer did not take her life. While cancer might have transformed Ann's body and taken parts that rightfully belonged to her, she threw the last punch.
